Welcome to the Digital Accessibility Allies!
Global Accessibility Awareness Day takes place on 15 May 2025, but we know that digital accessibility is not a one-day effort. This collection of blogs is a reminder of the work being done every day throughout the year to make a real difference by improving accessibility for all learners.
In this series, we’ll spotlight members of the University of Leeds community who have identified and addressed accessibility barriers, ensuring that digital content can be accessed and used by everyone.
Are you a Digital Accessibility Ally?
If you would like to submit a blog about your local digital accessibility projects, please email Debbie Gibbs (d.gibbs@leeds.ac.uk).
Not sure where to get started?
You too can become an ally by taking small, actionable steps, like the ones below:
- Run accessibility checks in Word or PowerPoint before saving content
- Use Blackboard Ally in Minerva to assess the accessibility of your materials
- Provide alt text descriptions for images so they can be interpreted by screen readers
- Use heading tags in Word documents to enable easy navigation with assistive devices.
